Today I was faced with a healthy dose of reality.
I've disappeared this past month again, and not for entirely unjustifiable reasons. Work has picked up, and as I balance life, my 9 to 5, and my side hustle, blogging takes the brunt of it. It's the easiest to forget, to shove off, and to push aside for other "more important" things.
This past week, I filled out my editorial calendar diligently and got really excited for the blog posts that are happening this month.
Now for honesty:
I sat in front of my computer, one of my favorite topics before me, and I had nothing to write.
So then I made my way over to my website metrics. The figures were unbelievable -- but not in a good way. No new blog posts mean no new traffic, and my numbers are lower than ever before. Reality. Ouch.
Thankfully, the end of my silence on my blog is in sight.
I've been in the process of a lot of change happening around Finicky Designs. And inevitably, with that change comes an influx of ideas, business plans, and not enough time in a day to develop the materials I want to develop for my audience. "Hustle" doesn't even do it justice.
I have so many exciting things that I want to share with you, but can't quite dive into all of it yet! What I can share with you are a few minor changes around the blog and around Finicky Designs as a whole that you'll be seeing.
As you may have noticed, my blog use to be geared towards all small businesses. I have a huge heart for small businesses and helping them establish their brand and be heard in a noisy world. While I'll continue to work with small businesses and send out monthly tips to help their biz, I'm gearing my business more towards helping writers. This decision doesn't come without reason -- so I'll be sharing the story behind my niche next week in a blog post, so be on the lookout for it!
With my writers in mind, I'm in the process of developing an extensive DIY guide to graphic design specifically FOR writers! The guide in a nutshell is going to help writers NOW with practical, do-it-yourself design tips for getting their writing HEARD. I'll be walking through best design practices, marketing techniques across social media platforms, and provide a helpful resource list so that they have the tools they need to accomplish what they want.
As my business continues to shift towards writers, I'll be building a new area of my website designed specifically for writers. Resources, tools, ebooks, you name it -- as I find it, I'll share it! I'll also be featuring passionate writers on the blog and sharing their stories. So stick around.
And as one final thing to share — Fridays have now become "Finicky Fridays" and I'll be sharing with you a behind-the-scenes look at my business each week. From office decorating to business practices, I want it share it all with you! There's just something about taking a peek behind the curtains and seeing a business at it's most vulnerable place.
Thank you for being a devoted blog reader!
Know I haven't abandoned ship -- in fact, quite the contrary. I'm more on this ship than ever, and I'm glad you're here to join me on the journey.
