How to Choose the Right Brand Designer

Choosing the right brand designer to create visuals that represent your brand is VITAL. Let me say that again (but it’s worth repeating about 50 times), choosing the right designer is VITAL. You need a designer that's going to jump on the same page as you—someone who understands your vision, your audience, and your vibe.

I'll admit, the process of finding the right designer can be difficult. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to get in front of my niche, my ideal clients, and those that I know I’d love to work with and who would love to work with me. But I watch the Facebook group posts that go out “In need of a designer!” and 50+ designers respond. It can be CONFUSING! You don’t know how to make the right decision—or even know where to start when it comes to considering designers.

There's a lot of pressure choosing a designer to represent you and your business. But I think there can be a good place to start. I believe there's a way you can set yourself up for success by asking important questions and knowing what to look for to ensure you choose the right brand designer.

LAUNCH DAY: GENTWENTY

Today is the BIG REVEAL of GenTwenty's newest look! While it isn't their very first launch day (GenTwenty was founded in March of 2013!), it's still a launch day of their beautiful new brand—something to really celebrate!

Nicole expressed wanting to work with me all the way back in May (can you really believe it's been that long, Nicole?). I worked closely with her as I discovered the hearts and minds of not just Nicole, but all of the many amazing contributors of the GenTwenty blog. These girls KNOW what it's like to live life in your twenties. In their own words: Our tried and true advice about growing up and navigating the real world will help you define your goals, figure out what your next move will be, and have fun along the way. And seriously, you can tell all of the hard work and pointed advice that goes into the content of their blog.

We wanted to give GenTwenty a clean, classy look that embodied sophistication—but also a bit of fun. The yellow and teal pairing were perfect in communicating this, along with the font paring of a more traditional "gen" with a fun, hand-lettered "twenty."

I loved working with Nicole, and—as a twenty-something myself—can't wait to follow along on her incredible journey as her and the contributors of GenTwenty continue to help us as we make the most of this decade!

Why Book Cover Design Matters

Often times, SO MUCH goes into the writing of a novel, that authors overlook the importance of a well-designed cover that represents their hard work. Your book cover is an extension of who you are as an author—it's a piece of your brand.

Your book cover is the FACE of your story. It's what your readers see, what gives them an impression, and what instantly tells them whether or not they might be interested in it. Book covers matter, and I want to help you navigate the design of it.

Brand Yourself – Part 2

Practically speaking, what does branding yourself look like and what are the components of your brand?

Before any design work is started, there are some key elements to branding yourself that should be figured out first. Some of the key elements to crafting your brand:

  • Knowing who you are as a business and where you're going
  • Knowing who your audience is and what they want
  • Knowing what you can offer your audience that no one else can
  • And knowing HOW you're going to offer it to your audience

All of those elements have to be figured out before you can even start to think about the visual aspect that communicates that foundation. I don't mean to keep repeating myself, but please remember that branding goes SO far beyond just the visual design of your company. It has to do with your heart, the way in which you work, and your audience. Your visual identity should just communicate all of those things.

Finicky Designs

First of all, I just want to send a HUGE thanks to everyone who showed their faces on New Years Day to support me! You all mean the world to me, and while my online presence is just getting started (I've only been around online since the end of October 2014), I've already reaped so many rewards from it and met so many amazing people. So, thank you!

Yesterday was spent hustling in the morning to release my new eBook, get together my design giveaway, and edit mine and my friend's vlog like crazy! It was a whirlwind of a day! But I also took the time look at my business, where I've come from, how far I've gone, and what is in store for me (and you) in the future. So here's the blog post summing all of that up (or anyways most of it)...
